$900,000 settlement against Philadelphia Nightclub for serving alcohol to a minor and other intoxicated person

The case involved a gentleman’s club in Philadelphia that continued to serve a 20 year old girl (a minor) and her boyfriend with large quantities of alcohol, after they were visibly intoxicated. At closing time, the couple drove away in her car. The boyfriend caused the car to strike a guardrail on I95, flipping the car over and throwing the girl approximately 40 feet into the highway. She suffered head trauma, back pain and severe road rash. It was discovered that both the girl and her boyfriend had blood alcohol levels that were three times the legal limit in PA. A complaint was filed alleging the club had violated §4-493 of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code (Dram Shop Act) which prohibits liquor establishments from serving alcohol to minors, and visibly intoxicated patrons. The matter ultimately settled for $900,000 before THE HONORABLE SANDRA MAZER MOSS in Philadelphia, just days before it was scheduled for trial. Attorney Valerie K. Williams was co-counsel for plaintiff.

On May 2, 2013, attorney Robert C. Keller was successful in having the charges of terroristic threats and harassment dismissed at the PRELIMINARY HEARING. DRUG CHARGES DISMISSED due to Illegal search by police

The defendant was sleeping on his friend’s couch when he was awoken by police. They were executing a valid search warrant issued for his friend’s home. The police then handcuffed and searched the defendant. They found a glass bottle that contained drugs on his person. He was charged with drug possession and intent to deliver. Robert C. Keller presented a Motion to Suppress the evidence before a Delaware County Court of Common Pleas judge. Mr. Keller argued that the search of the defendant was illegal and unconstitutional because the search exceeded the scope permitted by law. Since the bottle did not present an immediate danger to the police and since it was not known to contain drugs, any further search of the contents of the bottle was impermissible. Mr. Keller argued that since the search itself was illegal, any evidence of drugs found as a result of the unlawful search must be suppressed. The judge agreed. The evidence was suppressed and the charges were withdrawn by the Commonwealth.

A Bucks County jury finds the defendant “Not Guilty” of simple assault, neglect, and reckless endangerment

The defendant was charged with simple assault, neglect, and recklessly endangering another person while performing her duties at work. She plead her innocence and hired Robert C. Keller to represent her at time of trial. Mr. Keller’s zealous representation resulted in her acquittal. The Bucks County jury found her “not guilty” on all charges, in less than one hour of deliberating.

A successful recovery – left turn on a green arrow

In a case involving a car accident, Payne claimed that he had the right of way with a green light and that Jones had only a green arrow when she turned in front of him. Payne initially brought suit against Jones in District Court, where he was awarded damages.

The case was appealed and the matter was tried by Valerie K. Williams in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County. At time of trial it was argued that Jones (represented by Valerie K. Williams) had the right of way with a green arrow and that Payne ran through a steady red light. The jury found in favor of Jones and she was compensated for the damage to her vehicle in addition to her pain and suffering.
